Did you watch the Super Bowl? I did, and I loved every minute of it! From Jalen Hurts and the Eagles flawless win to Kendrick Lamar delivering an iconic, classic, symbolic powerful performance , it was everything. Every part of it felt like a nod to the struggles of blacks in America, with a sprinkle of pettiness, and I was absolutely here for it.

My favorites Samuel L. Jackson’s portrayal of Uncle Sam and Serena Williams dancing on stage. She looked amazing! What I loved most was that it was not a performance meant for everyone; it was a special tribute to those who truly understood and received it. He was not performing for the masses; he was celebrating his people, honoring how far they have come and how much further they have to go.

❤️ Personal Share: Valentine's Day and a lot of bit of doing to much

Whew! Let me tell you about this past week since we last talked! Somehow, I made it to two birthday parties, worked over the weekend, set things in motion to adopt a new dog, and even made it to church—all while fasting!

Did I do it delicately with ease? Nope, not at all!

In fact, I ended up at the wrong church because I was attending as someone’s guest, broke my fast because my auntie's cheesecake and chocolate-covered strawberries were calling my name (progress over perfection), and had to coordinate with my mom to get my son to his party. Oh, and budgeting for a new puppy after rehoming our pitbull was a whole process (we loved him, but being in a home with elders, and after he bit my mom twice in one week, a hard decision had to be made. The good news? He already found a loving new home).

But through all the chaos, what I did right was extending kindness and grace to myself.

I had those hard conversations: "Honey, you are EXHAUSTED and running on fumes." I reminded myself that I'm not Superwoman - nor do I aspire to be. While I often want more, more, more, I'm learning to be content with the fact that I already have more than enough. I have an amazing family and a son who excels at math, reading, and gaming. He's also a LEGO master constructor (proud LEGO mom here!). He doesn't have to be great at everything, and neither do I have to do everything.

💆🏽‍♀️How I'm Practicing Self-Care This Valentine's Week (While Fasting)

This week marks the 25th anniversary of my dad’s passing, so naturally, my mood is low, like, L-O-W.  Initially, I planned to treat myself to a hotel stay, complete with melatonin gummies, cocktails, and a fancy meal. But since I'm fasting, I've realized I don't need all that to honor his memory or celebrate love.

I’m fasting for a purpose, meaning I’m limiting myself to re-align my purpose and my values. And I realized I don’t need all of that to honor his memory or celebrate love. Instead, I’m choosing simple, intentional self-care:

  • Having a simple breakfast with my son at IHOP (pancakes and hash browns for him, fruit bowl for me - bonus: budget-friendly!)

  • An intentional trip bring home a new puppy; not as a replacement for our last one, but as a thoughtful step forward.

  • Cooking a small vegan meal for myself at home

  • Dedicating time to resting; rest is the ultimate self-care.

  • Taking a long, luxurious bubble bath where I will add essential oils, read, and light some home-made candles (yes, I am pampering myself!).

  • Enjoying the simple things; no pressure, no over-the-top plans. Just peace.

💝How You Can Practice Self-Care This Week (Solo or with Family)

Whether you're celebrating love for yourself, with your kids, or with your partner, here are some simple and fun ways to pour into yourself this week:

Solo Self-Care:

💌 Create homemade Valentine’s card for yourself - write down everything you love about YOU.

🎶 Create a playlist of your favorite songs and have a dance party in the mirror (because smiles and giggles are medicine!).

🎨Indulge and reconnect with your favorite hobby - do you have the supplies for it? If not, grab them this week or book a class (check Groupon for deals!).

Self-Care with Your Family:

🍽️ Transform dinner into a special experience, use candles to set the table and no screens.

💖 Exchange handmade Valentine’s cards with each other and read them out loud.

🍓 Create a dessert together something simple but fun!

🎲 Valentine’s-themed family game night! Get creative with heart-shaped snacks, love songs karaoke or make a coordinated dance routine.

At the end of the day, self-care isn’t about doing the most. It’s about taking care of yourself in the ways that actually fill you up.

So, how are you showing yourself love this week? Let me know in the comments! 💕

With Wellness, Learning, and Joy,

Ms. Lauren
