Personal Share: Bittersweet February
This month is about honoring the brilliance and resilience of Black individuals, showing love to our family and friends, and simply being kind. But it also holds personal weight for me, as I remember my dad’s passing on Valentine’s Day. As a kid, that was hard! As an adult, I’ve come to appreciate it as a day to cherish those who are still here while honoring the memory of those who have passed. My dad was big on love, so I choose to celebrate in his spirit; with kindness, gratitude, and joy.

Self-Care for Parents: Because You Deserve It
As parents, we pour so much into others, but self-love is just as essential. This month, let’s prioritize ourselves, too.
🌿 Take Five Minutes – Breathe deeply, stretch, or sit in stillness. A moment of pause is powerful.
🌿 Say No Without Guilt – Protect your energy and set boundaries where needed.
🌿 Move Your Body – Whether it’s yoga, a walk, or dancing in your kitchen, movement heals.
🌿 Affirm Yourself – “I am enough. I am worthy of love. I deserve rest.” Say it, believe it.
🌿 Lean Into Joy – Find small moments of joy, whether it’s music, journaling, or your favorite snack.
How to Show Love Without Spending a Dime

Love isn’t about material things—it’s about presence, care, and connection. Here are some simple, heartfelt ways to bond with your family and little ones this month:
💛 Quality Time – Unplug from distractions and engage in meaningful moments. Read a book together, cook a favorite meal, or have a cozy movie night.
💛 Words of Affirmation – Tell your kids, partner, and family members what you love about them. A simple “I appreciate you” can go a long way.
💛 Acts of Service – Help your child with a project, make a loved one’s favorite tea, or give an extra long hug. Small gestures matter.
💛 Create Together – Draw, build with LEGOs, or do a craft. Shared creativity strengthens bonds.
💛 Mindful Listening – Sometimes, love looks like sitting with someone and really hearing them—without fixing, judging, or rushing.
Equity & Intentional Support
With all the noise and chaos in the world, sometimes we need to step back and be intentional. I was hurt to see major retailers stepping away from DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives. This month, I’m taking small, mindful steps to support my community more; highlighting Black authors, being intentional about where I spend my money, and choosing to grow in ways that may feel uncomfortable but are necessary.
I also recognize that not everyone has the privilege to make these choices. Equity is about understanding that access is not the same for all. But where I can do better, I will do better.
Let’s celebrate this month with love, action, and care for ourselves and our communities. 💛
With Wellness, Learning, and Joy,
Ms. Lauren
